All-new, the entire 1958 Oldsmobile product line (Super 88 model shown) was truly over-the-top when it came to the use of chrome for added pizzazz.
The high-point of the chrome era, according to William L. Mitchell (who was the GM VP of Design), was the 1958 Oldsmobile. "We put chrome on with a trowel," he reminisced years later. It's no surprise these garish cars came to be known as "Chromesmobiles!"
