America's love affair with the pickup truck got some serious style when Chevrolet released the 2003 SSR (Super Sport Roadster) truck that came with a power retractable hardtop convertible feature. Its retro styling was inspired by Chevrolet's pickup trucks from the past, the 1947-1955 models, and with modern aerodynamic touches.
Running on a 116-inch wheelbase, the SSR was rear-wheel drive with a 5.3 liter V8 engine (aluminum block and heads), and available 6-speed Tremec T-56 manual transmission. It had a definite hot rod appearance and with its 19-inch front, 20-inch rear, five-spoke alloy wheels, 4-wheel disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering, it delivered impressive cornering capabilities and with minimal body roll.
